Last evening a wild grass fire raged out of control forcing residents of Sunset Acres and Mountain Meadows areas of west Lethbridge to evacuate. At the very same time the fire department battled a blaze in an industrial building that lost its roof during the wind storm.. The strongest wind gusts early Sunday afternoon were reported in Claresholm at 144 km/h. In Lethbridge, the wind was clocked at close to 120 km/h at the airport around 3:00 pm. Those are classified as Hurricane Force wind gusts. The maximum gust recorded here at our station was SW 116.6 km/h at 3:00 PM. AMAZING there was not more damage than there is!
Here is an assortment of links etc.
