144 Km/H winds in Claresholhm AB – Nov 27/2011

Did You Know: November 27, 2011 the strongest wind gusts early Sunday afternoon were reported in Claresholm at 144 km/h. In Lethbridge, the wind was clocked at close to 120 km/h at the airport around 3:00 pm. Those are classified as Hurricane Force wind gusts. The maximum gust recorded here at our station was 116.6C at 3:00 PM. Record high average wind speed was 80.1 km/h at 15:01 bearing 235 degrees (SW). More on this from CJOC FM News

Lethbridge AB Nov 27/11 HUGE Grass fires and winds cause evacuation

Last evening a wild grass fire raged out of control forcing residents of Sunset Acres and Mountain Meadows areas of west Lethbridge to evacuate.  At the very same time the fire department battled a blaze  in an industrial building that lost its roof during the wind storm..  The strongest wind gusts early Sunday afternoon were reported in Claresholm at 144 km/h.  In Lethbridge, the wind was clocked at close to 120 km/h at the airport around 3:00 pm.  Those are classified as Hurricane Force wind gusts.  The maximum gust recorded here at our station was SW 116.6 km/h at 3:00 PM. AMAZING there was not more damage than there is!

“Howling chinook winds blew part of a roof off a Nanton high school, pushed semi trucks off the highway and helped spread a large grass fire on Wednesday.”
